Skype criticisms As a result of the protocol design, if allowed access to connections of unrestricted network, Skype clients may turn to supernodes. These supernodes control the peer-to-peer network and offers data routing for clients who are behind a more restrictive firewall. This can subsequently start up an amount of bandwidth usage that is significant. For reasons as this, many network providers, mostly universities have stopped the use of Skype.

In certain countries, SkypeOut rates for longer calls are more expensive, but a lot cheaper for short calls. There have also been criticisms about the poor services rendered by Skype's customer support. Up till June 2007, Skype still doesn't have a straight way of reaching its customers. It only depends of web portal for all its related issues. Many complain have also originated from the issue of Skype disabling or blocking the accounts of customer from using the SkypeOut service.

On the release of Skype 2.0, AMD filed a lawsuit with claims that the software provides a 5-way conference call service to them, while it provides a 10-way conference calls service to Intel core processors.
